Job Description
CM Biomass is one of the world's leading traders of wood pellets and biomass fuels, headquartered in Copenhagen with a global presence across sourcing and consumption markets. We connect producers and consumers of sustainable biomass, providing supply security, logistics expertise and risk management across the full value chain. Our business development team operates across Denmark, Germany, Poland and the UK, and we are expanding our footprint in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Role
We are looking for a senior trader to drive the growth of our Polish and regional biomass business. This is a commercially autonomous role for an experienced dealmaker: you will originate, structure and execute physical biomass transactions, build out our counterparty network in Poland and neighbouring markets, and contribute to the strategic direction of our regional business development.
You will join a small, high-calibre team of four traders across Copenhagen, Germany and Poland, with the full backing of CM Biomass's global sourcing capability, logistics infrastructure and balance sheet.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and execute physical trades in wood pellets and related biomass fuels (industrial and premium pellets, wood chips, agro-biomass) across the Polish and CEE markets
- Develop and manage relationships with new and existing counterparties: pellet producers, industrial consumers, utilities, district heating companies, distributors and retail channels
- Identify and develop new business opportunities, including new products, new trade flows and new market segments, in line with CM Biomass's growth strategy
- Negotiate term contracts and spot transactions, managing pricing, logistics, quality and credit considerations end to end
- Monitor Polish and regional market fundamentals — supply, demand, regulation, certification requirements and competitor activity — and translate this into actionable trading and origination strategy
- Ensure transactions meet sustainability and certification requirements (e.g. ENplus, DINplus, SBP, KZR INiG) and internal compliance standards
- Work closely with colleagues in Copenhagen and Germany on cross-border flows, logistics optimisation and shared counterparty coverage
- Represent CM Biomass at industry conferences, trade events and counterparty meetings across the region
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in physical commodity trading, with a demonstrable commercial track record in biomass, wood pellets or closely related markets (solid fuels, agri-commodities, forest products)
- An established network of counterparties in the Polish biomass market — producers, consumers or both — and the credibility to open doors at a senior level
- Proven ability to originate and close new business independently, from first contact through to executed contract
- Strong understanding of physical trading mechanics: Incoterms, logistics (road, rail, sea and inland), quality specifications, contract structuring and counterparty risk
- Fluent Polish and professional working proficiency in English
- Willingness to travel regularly within Poland, to Copenhagen and across the region
Desirable
- Knowledge of biomass sustainability certification schemes (SBP, ENplus, KZR INiG) and the EU regulatory landscape (RED III, EU ETS implications for biomass)
- Experience trading into or out of neighbouring markets (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, the Baltics)
- Familiarity with utility-scale and district heating procurement processes in Poland
- Experience with freight and chartering, or container logistics for biomass
What We Offer
- A senior, entrepreneurial role with genuine commercial autonomy and direct P&L impact
- The platform of a global market leader: sourcing reach, logistics capability, market intelligence and financial strength
- A flat, collaborative team culture with short decision lines to senior management
- Competitive remuneration including performance-related compensation, reflecting seniority and commercial contribution
- Professional development and exposure across CM Biomass's international business
